Chairman’s Report – The Lions Trust 2024

The Lions Trust Annual General Meeting 2023 Minutes

Leading The Lions Trust

The relaunched Lions Trust is now fast approaching the 200 member point.
This is a fantastic achievement in a very short time – and we would like to thank each and every one of our new members for their support. The time is now right to start to look for new volunteers for each of our main positions, namely Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

As a fully democratic group, candidates for these leading roles must be elected by the Trust membership.

On that basis, we are looking for volunteers, preferably with the appropriate level of experience, to stand for the following positions:

Chair this is the ‘lead’ role, the main responsibility of the Chair being to publicly represent The Lions Trust when and where needed, as well as ensure that it functions in accordance with its constitution.
The Trust holds approximately 1.7% of the overall club shareholding and is registered with both the Football Supporters Association (FSA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Additionally, if the proposed recommendations of the Crouch report are implemented by the government, then it will also acquire powers to protect the identity of Millwall – including any move of stadium location.
Ideally candidates will be comfortable in a board room environment, as well as in dealings wih both the FSA, the FCA as well as the Trust membership.

Secretary – this role is focussed on the administration of the Trust as it grows in membership size.
The secretary’s role is also concerned with the arrangement of the Trust’s annual general meetings, any questions or queries from members and keeping the FCA and FSA ‘paperwork’ up to speed.
Again candidates will ideally have experience or background in these kinds of areas, organizational skills, as well as experience of dealing with the public in general.

Treasurer – as the name implies, this role deals with the finances of the Trust, including maintenance, upkeep and reporting of the bank accounts, as well preparation of the AGM account reports. Candidates will ideally be experienced in the financial world and in basic presentations for members of the Trust’s financial status.

Dear Lions Trust supporter,

Firstly may I apologise for the slow progress in relaunching the The Lions Trust, I am however pleased to be able to inform you that The Lions Trust is now formally registered with both the Football Supporters Association (FSA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (registered name Millwall Supporters Society Limited).

This means that we can press ahead to build up a paid membership and seek candidates for the key postions ahead of a General Meeting to elect candidates for the main Trust positions of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

We are therefore inviting Millwall fans to join the Lions Trust for the minimum cost of just £1.50.

By doing so you will be able to formally vote for these main positions, once candidates have come forward.

Please complete the membership form below and send £1.50 via the PayPal link to join the Lions Trust – thelionstrust@gmail.com

If you prefer to pay by bank transfer, please complete the membership form and send £1.50 to the Trust’s account:

Name – The Lions Trust
Sort code – 08 92 99
Account – 65107883
Reference – Please use your full name

Please note that the constitution of The Lions Trust dictates that only fully registered and paid Lions Trust members can vote for the positions of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.

The Lions Trust is the custodian of over 1% of the total Millwall PLC shareholding, which is held on behalf of all Millwall fans.

Furthermore it will both hold the proposed ‘Golden Share’, as outlined in any future government reforms, as well as being a participant in any club organised shadow board, which the club has indicated will be in place in the near future.

Perhaps most importantly of all, supporters trusts have allowed their clubs to ‘reform’ during difficult times. For example AFC Wimbledon, Brentford and Portsmouth have each been ‘fan owned’ clubs at various stages of their recent history.

In many ways, this is the most important reason to support The Lions Trust.

The Lions Trust is a democratic membership led organisation, one that must follow the standard FSA approved rules.

It is not however a campaign group, nor is it concerned with day by day or match related issues.

Are you interested in volunteering for any of the leading positions in the Lions Trust?

If so, we want to hear from you, please contact us by email – secretary@thelionstrust.org – your supporters trust needs you.

Thanks for your support.

Lions Trust 2022 AGM

The Lions Trust is relaunching and we need your help!

The Millwall supporters trust is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and the Football Supporters Association.

First created in 2002, its primary aim has evolved into being a potential vehicle for a fan-owned Millwall FC, if the current stability of John Berylson’s support were ever to come to an end.

Naturally nobody expects nor wants for this to become the case, but if it ever did, then the Lions Trust might offer fans a ‘lifeboat’ in the same way as we have seen at many other clubs in recent years.

In addition, if the terms of the recent Tracey Crouch report are passed into legislation, then it may be that a properly constituted and well run supporters trust would hold a right of veto (a ‘golden share’) over certain fundamental aspects of the club’s identity, location and participation in the EFL.

We need to be ready - can YOU help?

WHAT IS THE LIONS TRUST?
The Lions Trust is an independent, accountable and democratic Millwall fans organisation that believes our supporters play a vital role in the life of the club.

A registered supporters trust and a shareholder in the club, held on behalf of all Lions fans, it was first set up in 2002.

Over the years the Trust’s primary aim has evolved to provide a potential vehicle for a fan-owned club as has been seen at Wimbledon, Bury and many others over the years.

Thankfully we have been lucky at The Den never to have been in that desperate situation, but we must be prepared in case the worst should ever happen.

You can see a copy of the Trust’s 2002 constitution here:
