‘Millwall FC share consolidation’ – Lions Trust statement

An Extraordinary General Meeting has been announced on the Millwall Holdings PLC website, we understand that the primary motion is to vote on a ‘consolidation’ of the current company shareholders. The intention being to reduce numbers down to just 28 major holdings.

This is a similar process to that done in 2010, when the 43,000 small shareholders at that time, were reduced to the current figure of approximately 8,400.

Millwall FC is proposing that the ‘disenfranchised’ shares should be rolled up and transferred as a block to The Lions Trust as a properly constituted supporters trust to be held on behalf of fans, as was done in 2010.

The Lions Trust has been informed that this ‘consolidation’ is being done to:

– simplify the club’s share structure,
– reduce costs and;
– assist with attracting new investment.

Whilst the Lions Trust endorses all of these aims, we are seeking the views of those fans who have expressed support for the Lions Trust since its relaunch in order to guide both our vote and whether we should accept the ‘consolidated’ shares.

Those small shareholders who have bought into our club over the years did so primarily as a means of connection with the club that they have supported all of their lives; and this is something that we feel the club should properly acknowledge and compensate.

We have also asked that once again the individual shareholders should be allowed to opt out of their small shares being transferred to the Lions Trust, by requesting that a charitable donation be made by Millwall FC to the Millwall Community Scheme instead.

Anyone with any queries as to this process are being directed to Millwall FC at shareholders@MillwallFC.co.uk
